According to my reading of natural evolution, random genetic mutations provide a â€˜menuâ€™ for Quest-for-Potentialâˆž to â€œreviewâ€ – and then select from – or â€œlock-in onâ€ – a new â€˜genetic lineâ€™ most likely to achieve optimal potential (which includes survival)…and then transpose the genetic change across the entire species, and possibly beyond that.
This â€˜reading of the dataâ€™ would harmonize â€œpunctuated equilibriumâ€ nicely into an integrated theory.
This â€˜reading of the dataâ€ through my lens of â€œQuest for Potential / Extraordinariationâ€ would explain why we end up with thousands of species of (dainty and beautiful) butterflies – and not billions of species of (ultimate survivor) slugs.
